Education in Australia
Australian Education is compulsory from the age of 6-17 although an extra year is encouraged. The minimum age in which you can leave school is if you’re 17 or in year 10. Whichever comes first. Twenty point four percent of Australia’s population is made up of children with a school career. The education system in Australia is dependent on the states independent government. Each state or Territorial government is responsible for funding for schools and looking after their own concession. The three sections of the Australian education are the primary, high/secondary and university (however it is not compulsory). Pre-school for toddlers are available but yet again it’s not essential to attend.
Primary Schools: In the Primary school category there are several different types of education that are offered; private schooling, public teaching, co-ed schools, home-schooling and religious schools. It is compulsory to begin school at least at the age of six, however if you are younger you may be required to repeat a year.
High School: The secondary/high school education is popular for students who come from overseas. It is the step higher than primary. When ending school a test is given called the HSC (High School Certificate). This test outcome of your test result allows you to choose certain studies at university.
